Trump Institute, a little-known seminar business with ties to Donald Trump, is facing accusations of misleading its customers, the New York Times reported.

The allegations come as the developer and Republican presidential candidate battles a lawsuit over another education venture, Trump Univ上海贵族宝贝交流区 上海贵族宝贝论坛ersity.

Trump Institute was launched in 2005 by Irene and Mike Milin and offered customers who paid up to $2,000 to attend seminars across the country to learn Trump’s “wealth-cr爱上海同城 爱上海eating secrets and strategies, the Times reported. Trump himself never owned the business, but allowed the Milins to use his name and appeared in advertising for the program in return for a fee, the newspaper said.

“I put all of my concepts that have worked so well for me, new and old, into our seminar,” he said in a 2005 video, according to the Times. “I’m teaching what I’ve learned.” The Institute also told its customers that Trump himself picked its teachers – which the Times claims was not the case.

According to the newspaper, Trump had little actual involvem上海夜网 阿爱上海同城ent in the business. Part of its education materials, supposedly based on Trump’s “wisdom”, were actually plagiarized from an obscure 1995 real estate textbook. The couple running the business had been accused of fraud and deceptive business practices before, according to the Times.

SHoP Architects

The trendy NYC architecture firm has turned itself into the go-to firm for some of the highest-profile sites in the city, but can its rapid rise continue?

In 2009, Forest City Ratner stunned the city and fired starchitect Frank Gehry, whose vision for the Barclays Center in Brooklyn had ballooned to $1 billion.

The developer, looking to cut costs at its controversial Atlantic Yards project, tapped Ellerbe Becket, an architecture firm known more for its cookie-cutter venues than its creative vision. But the move blew up in the developer’s face when the new design was widely panned as drab and generic.

With all eyes on the site — which has since been rebranded as Pacific Park — Bruce Ratner made one last change-up: He brought on a then-virtually unknown firm, SHoP Architects, to clean up the mess and come up with a compromise design that was both acceptable and inspirational for the borough’s most high-profile project.

In doing so, Ratner — who was reportedly acting on the advice of another starchitect, David Childs — launched SHoP onto a trajectory that’s continued at full speed.

But at the time, SHoP had only a few relatively small projects to its name, including a 10-story condo in the Meatpacking District, a Hoboken condo conversion and a carousel project. All that changed after it landed the Barclays Center comm[……]

Department of Buildings NYC

The DOB is waging a war against the paper-pushers as part of a larger crackdown — but critics say the agency doesn’t have what it takes to properly regulate the industry

Expeditors have long been the ubiquitous, yet invisible, force guiding developers through the building  process in New York City. The independent contractors navigate the labyrinth of paperwork within the Department of Buildings and decipher the city’s byzantine zoning and construction laws on behalf of developers big and small.

Yet it’s long been the city’s “fantasy” to get rid of the profession, said longtime expeditor Mark Brotter, who has been filing permits with the DOB for more than 30 years. Indeed, several mayoral administrations and the Manhattan district attorney’s office —  galvanized by bribery scandals and complaints over the years — have called for an end to the occupation.

The most recent effort was put forth by the Red Tape Commission, a group of small-business owners, regulation experts and other professionals assembled by Comptroller Scott Stringer. The commission released a report last year calling for the DOB to create in-house advisory positions to replace expeditors as a whole.

Since Rick Chandler assumed his post as DOB commissioner in July 2014, the agency has made its intolerance for graft clear. In that time, the agency has taken disciplinary action against at least 82 construction professionals. A notable case is that of Scott Schnall, one of the mo[……]
